DigitalSTROM – Communication through the power network

digitalSTROM links electrical devices with each other in an easy manner. The power consumption is visible and measurable.  At the same time, safety and comfort increase.

An ant-sized chip makes it possible: Directly installed in the device or in an adapter – it allows the devices to communicate with each other. This works through the existing 230 V power network. The installation occurs with a few steps. digitalSTROM devices mediate between power creation and power consumption. The digitalSTROM chip decreases the standby consumption of electrical devices from the standard 3 to 5 down to below 0.3 watts. Devices only use power when it is really necessary. At the same time, the power consumption of the individual devices is visible. A simple traffic light system displays unusually high power consumption. The small red light points out undesired operation or defective devices. A worn refrigerator seal is recognized quickly and can be repaired by a specialist – just like the dripping faucet. digitalSTROM helps to decrease power consumption thanks to the comprehensive transparency of consumption.

digitalSTROM devices only communicate with each other within a circuit. The signals are not visible outside of this circuit. Thus, they are tap-proof. Other power-line systems on the same line are not hindered by digitalSTROM, because the technology does not work through frequency modulation. The internet functions are created in the system and each device receives a unique label, a type of bar code or IP address. However, they can be first used through the internet after the installation of a small digitalSTROM server. And even then, the data sovereignty always belongs to the user. They decide what is visible outside of the circuit, for example, for an electricity provider.  If the user releases certain information, a cancellation is possible – just as we are used to from mobile providers: The energy consumption of each device is transparent.
